Tenza Zangetzu Ichigo's Bankai. Made of maple wood and cotton ribbon. The chain is made from the wire from two coat hangers, The blade was curved using a steamer box. I was shown an amazing coincidence about this sword. The balance point is just behind the hand guard. I never planned it, hell I never even thought of it. It just happened.

sorry to correct, but it's not a katana, it's a chokuto.
(I'm NOT a know-it-all, but that's how it appeared in the anime)

To be honest I really don't know the difference.

a chokuto is a strait sword, and a katana is a curved blade.

I did not know that. The straightness was mostly due to my inexperience. This was my first sword based on an actual sword.

How long does it take you to make one on average

Depends on the sword. If it is a first time around it can take a month. Some I can make in as little as six hours.

I want to but it is a lot harder than it looks. That hand guard is amazingly complex.

i can imagine, how did you get started in making them. My wife and I are looking at starting in to doing cosplay I am always looking for advice on how to make things like that. Makes it more authentic so to speak.
